Free Placement Assistance
Udzungwa Mountains College Trust (UMCTO) offers free lifetime job placement assistance. When you earn your certification you receive a detailed list of approximately 500 Tour Operators/ Tour Planners, Hotels & Lodges, as well as Public and Private Sector Employers who have opted in to receive your resumes and cover letters. It is not just a list of companies but includes who to contact, their phone, fax, email, web site, and in many cases a short description of what they looking for. We direct our grads to over 500+ Tour Operators/ Tour Planners, Hotels and Lodges, Public and Private Sector Employers via a web site where they can research companies specific to their interests. We also provide a section in our “Getting Hired” book with contact information to the particular employer(s). Our programs are meant to provide the College Students with a greater understanding of the responsibilities of themselves to the particular professional course(s) chosen by them. For example in Professional Tour Guiding Training (Tour Directors and or/Safari Guides), with class instruction, practical exercises and problem, solving, etc, the College Students get a solid base of performance skills. Getting this education shows the Tour Operators/Tour Planners that you are sincerely interested in a career as a Safari Guide/Tour Guide and that you have invested your time and money in gaining these skills. This helps to enhance your candidacy for open positions. Our lifetime placement assistance is truly free for all of our graduates. There are no additional costs, no job symposiums to attend, you receive the personalized individual cover letter and resume direction specific to your companies of interest and assistance, newsletters from us, job opening announcements, etc. Local Travel and Tourism Fairs conducted in Tanzania from time to time such as Kili/ Karibu Fair, Swahili International Tourism Expo (Site), Zanzibar Travel Show, and Utalii Karibu Kusini Fair are the ones where UMCTO always participate fully by taking a Booth with the aim of building relationships, friendships, and networking with Industry Partners and Stakeholders locally and internationally for our College Students at large. For example, UMCTO participated in previous local Travel and Tourism Fair supervised and managed by Kili/Karibu Fair in 2013,2015,2018; Swahili International Tourism Expo (Site) in 2016; others are Dares Salaam International Trade Fair locally known as SabaSaba in 2016. Hundreds of graduates from UMCTO have attended these past conferences where industry speakers present. Tour Operators /Tour Planners interview and hire, industry networking takes place and educational topics are taught. As part of the certification program, UMCTO covers networking, resume preparation, cover letters, phone interviews, follow – up, etc. You get our help in the review of your cover letters and resumes. When we become aware of changes, you are kept advised by these changes to the “hiring list” and we provide you with input when companies contact us looking for UMCTO graduates or Safari guides, or hospitality professionals. The most important ingredient in getting hired is you. An effort on your part in cover letters and resume preparation is needed. The hiring list we provide is a starting point. Our graduates are encouraged to contact Tour Operators, Hotels &Lodges, Public and Private Sector Employers related to their particular professional course/career that they identify and not just the ones we include.
There are too many variables to “guarantee” employment. We supply direction, suggestions, reviews, etc. You are responsible to prepare your cover letters and resumes, research the companies, individualize your letters, follow – up, etc. We cannot know how you will interview but do provide an excellent basis for you to answer the questions in your interviews. Each College Student brings with them various backgrounds such as educational level, travel experiences, needs and wants, interests, availability during a given year, etc. All of these things are factors in your getting hired. Changing industry needs and passenger requirements can change throughout the years. So also does the economy and safety. With this in mind, those graduates who continue to expand their knowledge and skills in the field of Travel and Tourism, as well as other professional careers, enhance their employment opportunities. So does your availability accept assignments, ie, if you limit your availability to only one or two months a year, then your desirability as a Safari Guide /Tour Guide Candidate for a Company is not as strong as someone who is available year-round. With so many variables and the different needs of specific Safari Guides, our UMCTO graduates need to be reactive to the changing requirements. We can say that your certification as the UMCTO graduate in your particular professional course/ career whether you are a hospitality professional, tourism professional, or tour guide professional from our College does carry the best weight with the employers related to your professional course/ career.
